Chocolate Lab

My childhood dog was a doberman and my first dog as an adult was a lab/golden mix. These breeds hold a special place in my heart so it only seems right that they should be the first of my breed specific, non-commissioned, paintings!

I did also do a painting of a golden a while back which sold but the chocolate lab and doberman are both available.

By the Sea, Ghana

Recently I finished the largest painting I've ever done (Sligo). I believe this is the smallest. I painted this for March's Virtual Paintout challenge which was in Ghana. I've mentioned this before but I really love it when I have a chance to participate in this challenge. It's a lot of fun and such a great idea of Bill Guffey's!

I was very excited to be asked to paint a second portrait for a friend of mine from high school. This new portrait, which will be joining Sophie on their walls, is of their much loved dog named Seamus.

Freedom!

This is another large one, though not nearly as large as the Sligo painting! I had so much fun painting this! I was so captured by the spirit and beauty of this horse that I was sad to finish it. I was originally going to add a cradle to this but when I was out shopping the other day I found the perfect frame! The texture of the frame runs vertically and teeters on the edge of contemporary and traditional which I love! It is also dynamic enough to put on this painting which has so much movement but doesn't have so much energy that it competes with the painting. I was so happy as I really did not want to put a small plain frame on this guy!

Until this sells, it can be found hanging in my family room!

This is by far the largest painting I have ever done and it took me over a year to complete. This one sat in the corner and laughed at me for at least half that that year. Other things in life took over for while and I just didn't have the time to commit to such a daunting task. I'm glad to say that it has now joined the ranks of the signed and completed!

A college friend of mine likes to take photos of old cars and posts them to Facebook. She was kind enough to give me permission to paint from one of her wonderful photos. There is something about the orange Volkswagen bus against the yellow house which really draws my eye.

Virtual Paintout Blunder

Well shoot! I was just about to send in my submission for Bill Guffey's Virtual Paintout when I noticed that I had somehow traveled to Alabama instead of Nashville, TN in my virtual sight seeing. Since the place I painted from is out of this month's designated painting area I can't submit it. While this is rather disappointing, I'm also having a good laugh over it! I must have been quite tired when I was looking for a spot to paint from! Regardless, here it is!

Doberman Pinscher
